Blog Traffic

Things accomplished -

I have glanced through the section on Getting Traffic. For beginners who have tight financial budgets, here are some ways of getting traffic:

Forum Participation

This is almost essential if you have just started your own website. Search for the forum relevant to your niche topic, register for a free account and add your website in your signature with a short and direct description of it. This is important. When you actively participate in a forum discussion, people start to take notice of your signature. Your signature has to be compelling, direct, short and it has to have an impact the first moment you set your eyes on it.

eg 1: Earn Extra Income With Ease

eg 2: All you should know about...

eg 3: The Art of Writing Headlines

Copyblogger.com is a great site by Brian Clark that teaches you effective ways of writing headlines, writing compelling content for your blog, essential copywriting skills and blog psychology - why they hate or like your blog? what makes them come back for more?

The above is a great resource not only to create attractive signatures in forum participation but also to produce good articles for article submission and also to write effective Adsense advertisements.

Tip: DO NOT directly promote your own website or product in any forum discussions.

Article Marketing

Speaking of which, article submission itself is one of the best ways to drive targetted traffic to your site. And the best thing is that it is free.

When writing articles to submit to article directories, always keep your articles short, about 500 - 700 words is sufficient. Write about something you are skilled at and have active vocabulary in. If you do not have more information about a certain topic more than an average blogger, you're probably out of your comfort zone. So stay within your comfort zone!

This is important: Always include a link at the bottom of your article. You want readers to refer back to your website / blog. The thing about article marketing is that people who visit your blog already like you. Now you want them to worship you!

There are several artical submission directories online and one of the most popular ones is GoArticles. Read through some articles on the directory and learn writing skills from the authors. The only way to improve is to read more.

Tip: The title of your article is the first thing readers see when they do a search. DO NOT have similar titles as other articles. Make your article special.

Social Bookmarking

Bookmarking refers to saving your favourite sites /articles for future reference. Social refers to sharing it with the public or community. Therefore, the term Social Bookmarking refers to sharing your favourite sites / articles with the public or community.

The lifeline to blog traffic is links (I will blog more about this later). Social Bookmarking links your up with many other site owners who will in return visit your site. With the traffic part settled, you can now concentrate on converting these traffic.

Some popular social bookmarking sites: BlinkThis, Del.icio.us
